The state of Madhya Pradesh charges Rs. 2500 per annum as professional tax, which is the maximum value allowed under deduction.
The PT rate of Madhya Pradesh is divided between the financial years as follows:

Above Rs 15,000 | Rs 208 from Apr to Feb & Rs 212 in March |
Or Yearly:
Yearly Salary | Professional Tax |
Upto 1,80,000 | Nil |
1,80,001 and above | Rs 2500* |
* For 11 months i.e, April to February Rs. 208 and in the month of March Rs. 212.

Dear Sir, my gross monthly salary was approx. Rs.13650/- and my yearly gross salary was below Rs.1,65,000/- However, if we add ex-gratia amount of Rs.35000 which I received during the year, gross annual income (not salary) was Rs.2,00,000/- My employer deducted Rs.2500/- at once in the month of March, which I don’t think is right because my gross salary was only Rs.165000 (less ex-gratia) and even monthly salary was also Rs.13500. So at the most, Rs.125*12 = Rs.1500/- can only be deducted as per rule and I don’t think ex-gratia amount cannot be taxed under Professional Tax. Please give your opinion in this regard. Thanking you.
Sir, Since PT is deducted on Bonus, the same could have been applicable for ex-gratia as well.
Thanks for your reply. Could you please share any reference in the Act to second your opinion? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Suppose a person quits a firm in between current financial year, in that case, can the employer deduct profession tax for remaining months of the current financial year?
I quit my job at a firm in M.P. in August, however in my full and final settlement profession tax for remaining 7 months has also been deducted.
Same happened in March’17 during which profession tax for months April-July for FY16-17 was deducted even though profession tax was deducted regularly from August’16 to March’17
MY MONTHLY SALARY IS 50000 ..BUT DUE TO JOINING IN LAST SECOND MONTH YEARLY SALARY IS LESS THAN 180000…IN THIS CASE SHOULD PROFESSIONAL TAX BE DEDUCTED
My monthly salary is 13650. My professional tax didactic 2500. EPF is taxable or not.
Dear Sir, EPF amount is non-taxable is withdrawn after 5 years of continuous service.
