The employees provident fund organization (EPFO) now has made it mandatory to provide Aadhar card numbers in order to register for an EPF account. This has been made effective from March of 2013 for all employees in the organized sector. So while opening a new Employees’ Provident Fund(EPF) Account, ensure that an Aadhar card number is available beforehand.
Aadhar number is a unique identification number issued to the individuals for the purpose of establishing a sole identity of each and every individual.
But plenty of the aspiring members might not have their Aadhar numbers. This generally happens when the employees of an organization are from other distant and remote areas, where the idea of Aadhar has not even reached. Such employees are at the disadvantage of enrollment, thus leaving a large number of people deprived of their Aadhar numbers.
Linking EPF account with Aadhar card is a way in which the government is pushing more and more people into the enrollment of the UID (UNIQUE IDENTITY) cards.
For this reason, the EPFO suggests that the employers to get in touch with the UNIQUE IDENTIFICATION AUTHORITY OF INDIA (UIDAI) in order to lay down camps or centers nearby workplaces or industries or offices so that employees at work can easily start off with the process and avail it at the earliest.
However, for those employees who do not have the cards, a temporary Enrollment ID (EID) can be obtained as per the EPFO plan which can then be transformed into their Aadhaar numbers.
The already existing 50 million members of EPFO must present their Aadhar numbers since Aadhar is now an essential Know Your Customer (KYC) credential. Besides, it will be of great help to the EPFO members that if there are any more benefits then it will be easily applicable to the existing members who already have provided their Aadhar numbers.
All subscribers of EPFO, old or new must hurry, enroll and fetch their Aadhar card numbers.
