EPF wage ceiling to be increased to Rs. 25,000

EPF wage ceiling to be increased to Rs. 25,000

April 7, 2017

According to latest news, EPF wage ceiling to proposed to be increased to Rs. 25,000 from the existing 15,000 ceiling.

The proposal to increase the EPF wage ceiling was listed in the last meeting held the EPFO. If this proposal is accepted and comes to act, then an additional 1 crore formal workers will come under the EPFO’s social security scheme.

For the central government, this increase in the wage ceiling would mean that they will be contributing Rs.2,700 crore. This is due to the policy change made in the last year’s budget which stated that the Govt. will pay the EPF contribution of 8.33% for all new employees for first three years.

Another major change in the EPF is the decision by the Central Board of Trustees about reducing the threshold for coverage from 20 employees to 10 employees. While this has been decided by the EPFO and CBT, the amendment into this decision is yet to be made.
